Evaporation Systems
We can design any type and size of evaporator system, as well as systems for distillation, rectification, crystallization etc.
Exergy Engineering & Consulting has specialised in the Forced Recirculation type. Robust and stable operation makes it ideal for difficult waste-waters or special liquids where fouling of heating surfaces is a problem. The forced recirculation evaporator can provide a fouling free system where minimal maintenance is needed.

The Forced Recirculation Evaporator
In the heat exchanger the process liquid is heated under pressure to avoid boiling on the heating surfaces. Our shell and tube heat exchanger is specially designed to ensure a high circulation flow and high turbulence resulting in a non-fouling operation. After heating the pressure is released by a pressure control valve and the liquid flashes into the flash chamber. The water partially evaporates and the vapours are either condensed directly or reused in MVR design. The produced condensate can either be treated and used as process water or sent to a recipient.
The Forced Recirculation Evaporator has been developed over the last 20 years, and we have specialised in treating difficult fluid wastes like oil emulsions, dissolved salts, heavy metals, radio-active and other hazardous chemicals, suspended solids etc. It is robust and reliable process, with low energy consumption and a minimum need for maintenance.
The main markets are recovery or concentration of oil emulsions, metal salts, leachate, organic solvents and other difficult waste water. At Volvo Aero in Trollhättan, Sweden, a volume reduction of 80 times is achieved and concentrate is an oily sludge with less then 5% water. SAKAB, the Swedish central waste management agency for hazardous waste, is using our evaporator for concentrating all liquid waste before incineration. One of the latest applications is in the de-commissioning and cleaning of nuclear reactors. Radioactive materials are concentrated for long term storage in concrete containers as monotlies. The condensate is reused in the cleaning process.

The Falling film evaporation
Falling film evaporators have been designed and developed by us mainly to be used together with our Exergy Dryer. The low pressure steam from the Exergy dryer is used to generate clean steam to be used in steam turbines for electricity production, process heating etc. Other applications like evaporation of leachate have been found for this technology. Also, a combination of falling film and forced circulation has been used where large volumes need to be concentrated to very small residual volumes.
